The Vital List: Feng Shui for Fall

Friday, September 28, 2007

Temperatures and leaf colors aren’t the only things that should be changing with the start of a new season. We tapped into VJD’s Feng Shui experts for some quick tips from the ancient Chinese practice on placement and arrangement that will bring harmony to your new fall environment.

1

Clean clutter

Feng Shui expert Judith Wendell suggests getting rid of the clutter you accumulated during summer. Recycle old magazines, change the lightbulbs (to CFL), consider a new set of sheets. Move 9 (or any denomination of 9) objects in your home—9 is believed to represent maximum power in Feng Shui. Then mix orange essence with spring water and salt, and spray it around your house to balance energy.

2

Bamboo bath

Judith says that bathrooms “generally have a draining effect with all that water going down.” She recommends adding bamboo (or a plant) to bring upward energy to the room as it sprouts up. She adds that you should always keep the door to the bathroom closed—“the bathroom’s not a healthy room, and with fall’s metal elements interfering with lungs, skin and the large intestine, your health is more vulnerable.”

3

Fertility unplugged

Cycle off? Intuitive Life Coach to the Stars Suzannah Galland says it might be the cell phone charger you keep plugged in by the bed. She encourages clients to unplug all wires under and around your bed, adding, “Feng shui believes electric currents block or interfere with your menstrual cycle—especially when it comes to a woman’s fertility.” Just think of all the energy you’ll be saving, too …

4

List benefits

Fall is both a time of harvest and a time for reflection as we approach a new year—perfect time to make a list of all that you intend to accomplish with the remainder of 2007. Judith recommends putting your list in a red (considered to be protective) envelope near the front right area of your home (the “benefactors area”— believed to have great positive influence on your life).
