Tired of chasing your tot down the aisles at Toys R’ Us? Then sign up for Baby Plays—a sort of Netflix for play things. Every month, they’ll send you (lead-fr*ee) toys from your pre-selected “toy box” that have been sanitized using organic cleaning products. Play with them for 1 month (or longer—no late fees!) and you can even decide to purchase the toy(s) in your possession for 20% of retail.
If you can’t pronounce it, you wouldn’t eat it…right? Well, then why would you put it on your baby’s super-sensitive skin?

The Environmental Working Group’s Safety Guide to Children’s Personal Care Products lists over 20 "common ingredients of concern" such as BHA (found in diaper cream and known to cause skin depigmentation), Triclosan (antibacterial agent found in liquid hand soap that may disrupt growth hormones), and Ceteareth (commonly found in diaper wipes and can contain cancer-causing impurities).

What to do?

• Download the EWG’s Parent’s Buying Guide.

• Carefully scan ingredients before you buy products.

• Make your own!

The unknown effects of these ingredients led Jen Casey to create Dimpleskins Naturals—a line of baby care products made of organic ingredients with no chemicals, preservatives or synthetic fragrances. Try one of her “recipes” for homemade diaper wipes, natural deodorizers and her “Mom & Me” milk bath.
