Daily bit top

/Green Cleaners/ n: Nowadays it seems like every local dry-cleaner is making “eco-friendly” claims, but which ones qualify as green cleaners? Most dry cleaners use a solvent called perchloroethylene (or “perc”), which is considered a harmful chemical. Environmentalists have only approved one alternative, liquid CO2, which is now being used at select locations. Ask your cleaners if they use CO2 or find a green cleaner near you.

When hunger hits, it’s important to be prepared with a healthy snack. Marissa Lippert, MS, RD helped us pick the top 10 treats to satisfy every craving.

Salty snackers can skip the potato chips and opt for (1) a small handful of nuts (10-20 almonds or cashews or about 50 pistachios in the shell), or (2) 1 serving of Newman’s Own Hi-Protein Pretzels.

Chocoholics should reach for (3) 1 container of sweetriot dark chocolate-covered cacao nibs, or (4) a high-fiber chocolate-flavored bar like GNU Flavor & Fiber Bar in Chocolate Brownie (don’t go over 200 calories).

Candy cravings can be satisfied with (5) all-natural Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops; but when fresh fruit won’t do, try (6) Stretch Island Fruit Leather instead.

Bread lovers will get their carb fix with (7) a mini whole wheat pita topped with 2-3 tbsp hummus or nut butter, or (8) 1 serving of whole-grain cereal like Nature’s Path Flax Plus.

Baked sweets more your taste? Instead of a high-fat muffin or donut, pick up (9) 1 Kashi TLC cookie, or (10) 1 pack of Fig Newmans (each contains 2 cookies).
