Eczema isn’t pretty but it is pretty common, especially in little folks. About 20% of infants and young children have eczema, according to
Baby Center. It can look like dry, thickened, scaly skin or a cluster of little red bumps. You might see it on baby’s forehead, cheeks and scalp but it can spread to other parts of the body.
Nobody’s certain about the cause but the experts suspect genetics. And besides being unattractive, it’s also itchy. For a natural approach to fighting the scratch, we asked Tiffany Washko of
NatureMoms to give us some tips:
• Moisturize with natural products (synthetic chemicals could irritate the skin).
Aloe Vera is a good bet.
• Watch for allergies that could be contributing to the problem like pollen, mold, animal dander, harsh soaps and detergents, skin care products with fragrance, dairy products, eggs, nuts, wheat and acidic foods like tomatoes.
• Avoid conventional soaps or cleansers because they will dry out the skin.
• Make an
oatmeal bath for baby, which will help keep the skin moisturized.
